Mermaids
09/21/03

Deep within the ocean, waters sapphire blue,
The legend of the Mermaid, do you think it's really true?
There are so many stories, they cannot all be wrong,
Across the crystal waters, to hear a Mermaids song.

Mariners have told the tale of seeing many things,
Upon the sea, late at night, the Mermaid often sings.
Tales of pretty Mermaids thus the folklore goes,
Are these made up stories? in fact who really knows?

Supernatural creatures, half beauty to behold,
The bottom of their bodies, fish scales, wet and cold.
Appearing on the surface combing their long hair,
Looking in a mirror, so vain is one so fair.

Enticing humans to the sea, they tempt to fall in love,
Immortal lover is their wish, one only needs a shove.
When sailing on the ocean or swimming in the sea,
Ignore the songs of Mermaids or you will not be free.

The Ladybird Lost Her Spots
10/07/03
A pretty little lady bird lost her spots one day,
She felt so very worried I heard a beetle say.
"Where do you think I lost them"? Ladybird did ask,
"I need the help of all my friends with this important task".

"Hello there to you Mrs. Ant, can you help me please"?
"Try asking wise old Mr. Owl, his home is in the tree's".
"Why not ask the tiny worm underneath the rock,
Mind your manners when you call, don't forget to knock".

A Bumblebee's so busy flying here and there,
"Excuse me, can you help me"? He doesn't seem to care.
Maybe talk to rabbit that lives way underground,
"Can you hear if he's at home"? "I cannot hear a sound".

Travelling through the garden, asking everyone,
No one seems to know a thing, just where her spots had gone.
Sitting quite exhausted, slipping off to sleep,
Losing all her bright black spots made her want to weep.

She heard the cockerel crowing, it gave her quite a start,
Remembering her lost black spots, gave sadness in her heart.
She thought it's time to travel on, waking from her nap,
"I'll have a word with slippery snail, down by the garden tap".

The tap had running water, trickling from the spout,
It made a puddle on the ground, of this she had no doubt.
She looked into the puddle her image for to view,
Imagine what a shock she had, she looked as good as new.

Her bright black spots were all in place, it made her stop and think,
I'm sure she had been dreaming when she had forty winks.
She dreamt of losing all her spots and making her feel sad,
Travelling now back homewards the Ladybird felt glad.

Who Were You?
10/21/03

Who were you my love so sweet,
by chance or destiny we should meet.

A fleeting glance that came my way,
eyes that met, no words to say.

Many people pass us by,
that certain look, I wonder why?

You came my way and stayed a while,
how love can make you want to smile.

These treasured memories I will keep,
I think of you before I sleep.

This love was not allowed to stay,
we had to go a different way.

Like ships that pass upon the sea,
for just a time you belonged to me.

Forbidden love just isn't fair,
but think of me, as I still care.

I Love You Dad
11/02/03

I wouldn't know what life was,

Love would never be,
One moment in your lifetime, you gave a life to me.
Vast memories I shared with you,
Everyone I hold,

You did your best to raise me, to do as I was told.
Our years we spent together, child and parent be,
Understand my precious dad, you meant the world to me.

Doing all my chores in life, I thank you from my heart,
And today I want to say to you,
Dad I loved you from the start.

The Gunpowder Plot
11/14/03

As the chestnuts are roasting and the fire's getting hot,
Let's recall through the embers of the gunpowder plot.

T'was the king James the first, who'd applied anti-laws,
Roman Catholic oppression was the gunpowder cause.
November the fifth, year sixteen and a five,
Gave a group of these gents their passion and drive.

A gent Robert Catsby decided one day,
To blow up the Houses of Lords, so they say.
His cousin Thomas Winter agreed with the plan,
Thomas Percy his friend would help this fine man.

John Wright was another to join in the deed,
Guy Fawkes was approached, a fortune soldier to lead.
And also Sir Edward Digby, a strong Catholic gent,
John Grant, Ambrose Rokewood these all were intent.

Robert Winter the brother of Thomas joined in,
Christopher Wright's young brother, yet another of kin.
All plotting together to see this act through,
Guy Fawkes had his orders and knew what to do.

Thirty six barrels of powder was placed,
Inside the cellar, what repercussions they'd face?
Guy Fawkes was chosen to light the long fuse,
To flee straight to Flanders of this he did choose.

Tresham exposed his friends of this plight,
A letter to disclose the actions that night.
As Fawkes left the cellar with fuses concealed,
This plot of destruction was immediately revealed.

Put on the rack and tortured so long,
Although through his obstinacy he couldn't stay strong.
Revealing all others who, for his tortures were skilled,
All gents in this plot were hanged or were killed.

On the thirty first of January sixteen and six,
Was the day when these men died for this terrible fix?
Today we burn effigies of Fawkes on this night,
To remember these men of their untimely plight.

A Little Piece Of Paper
11/25/03

There's a little piece of paper, stuck upon my shoe,
I try my best to get it off, but don't know what to do.
It's stuck in such an awkward place, back upon my heel,
I twist and turn to get it off, like dancing in a reel.

One step back to try and catch the paper with my toe,
Not the foot it's stuck to, the other toe, you know?
I've scraped my foot along the ground; the paper is still there,
To wedge my heel upon the wood, that's underneath my chair.

The paper is still peeping out; I'm thinking what to do,
Feeling kind of silly, just remove my shoe.
I slipped my shoe off carefully; I will get it now,
The piece of paper had fell off, come unstuck, but how?

Remember Them
11/06/03

Lest we forget their bravery,
Our hero's, everyone.
Doing their duty for us all,
Their memories linger on.

Not only the armed forces,
But many civilians too,
Gave up their lives in many wars,
Think what they did for you.

In all our busy lives we lead,
One moment you might spare,
To quietly thank these people,
They died; the one's to care.

Remembrance Sunday once a year,
Not much when you think of time,
As red poppies fall let your thoughts respect,
And the church bells solemnly chime.

These wars have claimed so many,
Old and young, that's right,
To all whose precious lives were lost,
We say thank you and goodnight.

Winter
12/06/03

The seasons come and go you know,
Summer, spring or fall,
But the season that's quite beautiful,
Is winter after all.

When snowflakes fall so softly,
And the Robin comes to stay,
When you see the little children,
How happily they play.

A snowman looks quite proud out there,
In a garden right next door,
The sky is white all over,
It's about to snow some more.

Red berries look so pretty,
Against the brilliant white,
How the snowflakes glisten,
In the darkness of the night.

Everywhere looks peaceful,
Like a blanket on the ground,
When the snow is falling,
You can barely hear a sound.

Snooker Table
12/16/03
"Can I book a wedding please" a gentleman he said,
"My daughter's getting married, what's the price you charge per head?"

"Roast Beef and Yorkshire pudding, apple pie with double cream",
I said "that's not a problem sir, we have a first class team".

"Soup I think we'll start with", he continued with his plan,
A hundred guests, two bridesmaids, four parents, and one best man.

He said, "I want it to be very hot" I said, "we would be able",
"What facilities are there in the place" he said "a snooker table".

Although we were a first class team, we really were unable,
To cook a three-course wedding meal, upon snooker table.

Trying not to sound amazed, I answered so politely,
"Gas or electric we would need, either would do nicely".

He said "what I was thinking of something you could do,
Was place a board upon the top", he hadn't got a clue.

We said that we would do it, we would manage it some way,
The man was so excited for his daughter's wedding day.

We hired some heated cupboards, boilers, pots and pans,
All equipment that we used was delivered in our vans.

The day went really smashing, perfection all the way,
The man was very pleased and proud, on his daughter's wedding day.

My Faith
01/02/04

Don't know if I've found my faith, I'm not sure that I lost it.
Can't remember finding it, I think I've always had this.

All I know is when I'm low and feeling all-forlorn,
Who's the one that starts the day and begins a brand new dawn?

When I'm feeling frightened and wonder how to cope,
Whose hand is it that saves me, by throwing me a rope?

If I try to sit around with self-pity and in gloom,
Who puts all the lights on and brightens up my room?

When the signpost on life's journey becomes a little blurred,
Who tries to send a message, an angel's voice is heard?

Angels with a job to do, here around our earth,
Who's the one who sent them, how precious is their worth?

They seem to represent someone; they try and help you cope,
Who's the one that gives the thought for you to always hope?

I know I haven't lost it, I keep it tucked away,
Who's the one that guides my faith every single day?
